Reflections of Baby Week 2022

Baby Week 2022 was a success offering a host of different and exciting programs for both families and professionals. We opened with a fantastic launch at Civic Hall Banqueting suite – take a look at other blog post from the day.

Leeds Bosom Buddies hosted a young parent Instagram live workshop on infant feeding – calling in young parents and getting their feedback on their experiences. There was so much to learn including why it’s important to get that information in the antenatal period regarding choices on feeding. Professionals and peer supporters where present to answer questions alongside representatives from Child Friendly Leeds.

For the professionals PHINS (Public Health Integrated Nursing Service) offered a workshop for professionals on How to talk to a parent about their drug and alcohol use as well why Early Relationships Matter, Pregnancy in Mind with NSPCC Information and Taster session. The of the Domestic Violence & Abuse Coordinators in the Early Help Hubs, Reducing Parental Conflict and a Q&A session.

Leeds Libraries promoted their ready steady read program and book start bags attracting 661 people, and included speakers Author talk Everybody’s Midwife – My Community Experience.

Children’s Centres offered a 28 wonderful choice of activities across the city: including baby massage and infant feeding workshops, Understanding Your Baby, HENRY Parenting Programme.

On the final day The Tetley Gallery offered their space to help promote Baby Week and bring more families to the gallery. (with the biggest buggy park ever in a gallery) Offering a selection of sensory events. They saw over 200 families make the most of the space on two levels. Boomchikkaboom were there on a rotation of hourly baby raves. Professionals from the PHINS team were present to speak to families about queries and advice. We even included sampling the new kids menu launched in Baby Week.

City Musuem hosted their usual Tiny Tigers, a creative activity session which takes place every Friday but with our banner and northern rail who were present and are keen to get more families traveling by train into town.

We had the much sought after First Aid training session which the city museum helped to host. Meeting new parents and parents to be giving them reassurance to deliver first aid at home.

One family said. ‘We would never have found any children’s workshops if it hadn’t been for Baby Week! ‘
