Play at Leeds Libraries
Discover a Mini Playbox during the Leeds Festival of Play & Creativity!
Leeds Libraries’ colourful Mini Playboxes are packed with fun and engaging self-serve activities for children under five and their families to enjoy in the library.
The Mini Playboxes are free to use and is available at selected libraries in the children area throughout the day during opening hours. Each box has six drawers full of open ended play activities which can then be recreated at home with objects you are likely to already have in the house. This open ended play supports early speech and language development, numeracy skills and encourages creative play.

The Tiny Totley Studio is the creation of play-inspired artist Stephanie Jeffries and features a slide, a den, tactile objects and a sound installation unique to the building. Its introduction has brought new life to the early years area of the Children’s Library, which still has a brilliant range of diverse book titles for under 5s.
Whether your little one likes to feel the speed of a slide ride, a quiet moment with a book in a cosy cushioned nook or a paddle in a ball-pool brimming with breast and bottle-feeding inclusive shapes, then you have to visit Leeds Central Library for the Tiny Totley Studio experience!
Visit the Compton Centre Community Hub & Library for an outdoor play experience. Play Together, Talk Together – consists of seven interactive installations that now have pride of place in the grounds of the Compton Centre.
The nature-themed installations were designed and produced by creative organisations Playful Anywhere and Play Explore Art following a commission from a partnership between the council and Nesta, the UK’s innovation agency for social good.
