Sunderland Family hubs are excited to bring back Baby Week in 2026 with the theme: Chat, play, read with me. We want to ensure that every child in Sunderland has the best start in life through shining a spotlight on the first 1001 critical days with our partners, families and professionals. We know the first 1001 days are a unique period for a baby that sets the foundations for lifelong emotional and physical wellbeing we will spend baby week showcasing support, advice, activities and Sunderland’s commitment to the best start in life.
Being part of Baby Week is a wonderful opportunity for Sunderland to celebrate babies across all sectors and raise the profile of the importance of every child being given the same opportunities to have the best start in life.

Over the last decade, Baby Week UK has expanded across England, helping thousands of parents, carers, professionals, and community members connect, learn, and access support. By showcasing free and low-cost services, activities, and opportunities, Baby Week aims to reduce barriers and improve awareness of the support available for families with children under five. Here are just a few reflections from attendees on the difference Baby Week has made.
“Baby week is an absolutely fantastic initiative in out city it bought together professionals from across the sector and gave families time to chat, learn and share their experiences of parenthood. Over 200 attendees at one of our launch event and using a city centre location and offering lots of activities for the age range (0-5) worked well.”
